My early childhood was spent hovering above my
dad's Beseler enlarger. Amidst the darkroom's foggy, orange glow, I was
hypnotized from the beginning and quickly fell in love with the
photographic process. My collegiate years were spent exploring New York
City and San Francisco (and rebelling against art school conformity). I
developed my point of view, intimately engaged with my environment and
shot without reservation. I toured our diverse landscape, spanning time
and getting lost on purpose. After learning from small towns and big
cities alike, I migrated to Portland for bike lanes and misfits.
Portland has been my background of choice for the
past ten years.
My work stems from a deep rooted need to translate ideas and feelings.
For me, photography amalgamates documentation, problem solving and
emotional reflex in one instantly gratifying image. Thought provoking
or heart aching, I seek to make an impression. I still use actual film
because I value the tangible depth that it captures. I collect the
subtle, raw and quiet details of life. I’ve never sought to compromise
my work for money and am lucky to have shot projects that I truly
believe in. I love the chase, following my gut and not knowing what
lies ahead. True beauty does hide beneath the surface. It's just a
matter of finding the right angle.
